How to get there and what to do in Popeye Village if you're in Malta
Popeye Village is a place to put on the shortlist when you're in Malta, whether you are with or without children, because the stories are beautiful at any age, and spinach is healthy. If you grew up with Popeye and it was the only method that worked when your’s were trying to make you eat this miraculous greenery, then this place is for you. It fascinated me as it recreates the atmosphere of the 1980s. I discovered a lot of familiar objects that transposed in a blink of the past and softened my appetite for memories. I saw my childhood again and I got a crazy desire to eat a portion of spinach with a fried egg above it.
We liked losing ourselves among the characters, getting to know Popeye, talking to Olive or hiding from Captain Bluto. We had a lot of fun when the tourists became characters in the scene that was just being filmed. We chose to be spectators and to attend the show, but we promised that next time we would-be actors.
Welcoming hosts, always with their doors open, let us walk around and invade their privacy. From Popeye's house to the grocery store or the dentist's office, everyone was ready to welcome us. The place grabbed us. I ran from side to side like two happy children, I took pictures, I went to the cinema where I saw a documentary about Popeye and the life on the set, I ate popcorn (a portion of popcorn is included in the price entry ticket).
We settled down late on a terrace above the bay. At any table you sit down, you see the water of a dreamy turquoise hypnotizing you. Time passed faster than we expected and we had to change our plans a bit about what we had to visit. If you are with children, you can spend a whole day relaxing. There are plenty of activities for the little ones to keep them occupied.
If I gave you an idea for your next vacation, I would be grateful to tell this guy not to hide. I already paid him the entrance ticket.
What you need to know!
The entrance ticket costs 11 euros (adult) / 9 euros (child) - between January and May (you include in the ticket price a portion of popcorn, a photo and a postcard - in the cold season)
The price varies depending on the period, enter https://www.popeyemalta.com
A trampoline, a water park with an exit to the sea and the possibility to rent umbrellas and sunbeds to enjoy your relaxation are at your disposal during the hot season.
You have the chance to be an actor in a movie scene (you will have fun!) And you can buy the recording at the end of the day.
The village is at a distance of 3 km from Mellieha, a beautiful area, with a beach, to visit if you arrive in summer.
If you have not rented transport (car, ATV, scooter), you can get it by bus 42 from Valletta, bus 222 from Sliema or St. Julian, or the X1 bus from the airport.
An alternative to getting to Popeye Village from the airport, from Sliema or Valletta is to take a taxi that costs 60 euros (round trip).
We used Matt Farrugia's services to get to the airport (we paid 15 euros from Sliema), but you can rely on him for any other location. Tel. +35679044039, facebook: Matt Farrugia (Cab service) / mattcabsmalta
The distance between Valletta and Popeye Village is approximately 23 km.
