My Son, the remnants of the Cham dynasty

After hundreds of years of natural degradation, largely destroyed by bombing during the war, the ruins of My Son shrine are all that remains of a complex of Hindu temples built by the Cham dynasty, which ruled the central and southern parts. of Vietnam from the third century to 1832.

The vibrations of a disappeared world feel as you walk in the valley surrounded by forested mountains. In the vicinity, a stream hidden behind the trees, whispers mysterious mysteries.

Efforts are being made to conserve and restore My Son. Materials as similar to those used by Cham architects are used, however we can clearly distinguish authentic bricks. The walls partially covered by moss, sometimes black and white, reveal, here and there, red bricks that attract your attention immediately. The originals, have stood the test of time, the proof that the people of the kingdom Cham knew very well the combustion technique. In addition, if you look closely, you will not discover any traces of mortar or binder that will connect them. It is far beyond our comprehension.

The ingenuity with which these temples were dedicated to Hindu gods and deities, especially Shiva, considered the protector of Champa kings, attracts the attention of visitors. The interior is simple and quite dark because the houses had no windows. The darkness helped the shamans who entered the temples to communicate with the deities.

My Son stretches in a valley of about 2 Km. From the entrance you can walk to the ruins with a car provided by the complex.

The cities of central Vietnam are gateways to My Son. We chose to visit him from Hoi An, with a rented car and a guide able to suggest our itineraries. Tourist buses are available for those whose routes match those offered. The entrance ticket is $ 7 / per person.
