Lunchtime. For a few minutes we wandered through the sleeping village, looking for the pension we were going to stay at, because, due to a service at the church on the corner, the street we had to reach was blocked. A phone call, a friendly host and things were resolved immediately. As a welcome, some guitar chords, in the dining room full of old things, where the reception also takes place. A pendulum in which time stood, a drawer full of objects over which lay a thin layer of dust, which once belonged to Mr Carles, Greg's great-grandfather-owner of the pension, and a porcelain cup on a table that still retains traces of the elegance of old times, enhances the mystery of the house chained by bougainvillaea. I love story houses, and Maison Carles (Maison Carles B&B), a 300-year-old family house in the centre of Colle-sur-Loup, is one of them.

You would expect it to smell of mold, and the floors to creak underfoot. No way! The owner renovates it every year, every winter, in order to offer guests the necessary comfort. The rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated, equipped with an equipped kitchen. Request a room overlooking the wooded hills! You won't be sorry!

The mornings were perfect. The freshly baked baguette, the steaming croissant, with the scent of "joie de vivre", enjoyed with aromatic coffee and cold fresh orange juice was the most suitable treat. We preferred to have breakfast on the beautifully arranged terrace, under a cheerful blue sky.

It was so relaxing that we extended our stay by one day. I promised we'd be back. Until then, the guitar hanging on the wall, near the window shaded by wild vine, is waiting to say goodbye to the guests who arrived in search of peace.

Maison Carles is 15 minutes from Nice Airport and 30 minutes from the mountains. Access is just as easy if you want to enjoy Monaco or Cannes (40 minutes by car).
